Do you respect the source of the advice? Is it reliable? Experienced? Relevant? I believe experience matters and the advice that comes from it is important, but you have to take it at face value and figure out how that fits into your perspective - make it work for you. When it comes to feedback, I never know whether it's coming from personal preference or a real regard for the brand. Some guy might be afraid of heights and hates anything that has a ladder in it. There's some small minded thinking out there.
You know EVERYONE has an opinion and they're all different. However, you will find that if something is loved or hated, the general criticism/praise of what they hate/love about it will be the same. That's when what you think takes a backseat because if the consensus is that something is no good, then it's no good. Same with amazing work. The worst thing it can be is in the middle - if it doesn't evoke a response, then it's like everything else out there. Take the advice, feedback, criticism - welcome it. Be open to it. After you digest it, then defend your position if you LOVE what you have. Most importantly, don't let the bastards get you down.
